Two Southeast Arkansas residents are among staff of the musical, “Next to Normal,” at Southern Arkansas University at Magnolia.


Eboni Edwards of Pine Bluff, a junior performing arts: musical theatre major, is the assistant director. Matt Graham of Sheridan, a freshman performing arts: theatre major, is the light board operator for the show.


The SAU Theatre will perform “Next to Normal” at Harton Theatre from Sept. 27 to Oct. 7. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and the Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. There will be an actor talk-back following both Saturday night shows.


“With book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt, ‘Next to Normal’ centers around a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effects that her illness and its management have had on her family. The musical also addresses the issues of grief, suicide, drug abuse, ethics in modern psychiatry and the underbelly of suburban life,” according to a news release. “The show is recommended for audiences over the age of 13 as it contains adult themes, language and content.”
