A second community forum on the casino gambling initiative will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) STEM Academy at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.
Pine Bluff legislators, state Rep. Vivian Flowers (District 17) and Rep. Ken Ferguson (District 16) will host the event, according to a news release.
The proposal is listed as Issue 4 on Tuesday, Nov. 6, election ballot. Early voting begins Monday, Oct. 22.
The forum will feature presenters for and against the ballot measure, including Chairman John Berrey, Quapaw Nation; David L. Colbert, lobbyist/advocate for problem gambling resources; Anna Stiritz, a lawyer and Pope County volunteer; and Ryan Watley, chief executive officer of Go Forward Pine Bluff. Wesley Brown, a journalist and the business editor for Talk Business & Politics, will moderate the forum.
Legislators will have opening remarks then join the audience for the discussion and question and answer segment. Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington will make closing remarks, according to the release.
The discussion will cover the pros and cons of Issue 4, how the proposed initiated amendment will impact Pine Bluff and the state, as well as the status of the amendment.
“Rep. Ken Ferguson and I have hosted over a dozen community forum discussions on issues important to Jefferson County and the state to make sure our constituents are armed with critical information necessary to vote and hold us accountable,” Flowers said.
The forum will be streamed live on Facebook. The public is invited to attend.
