Seraph Brass, an internationally known all-woman brass ensemble, is closing 2018 with a tour, including stops at Pine Bluff and Monticello.

The group will perform pieces from their first studio album, Asteria, through Summit Records.

“Winner of silver medals from the Global Music Awards for both Group and Album, Asteria includes original commissions by American composers Rene Orth and Catherine McMichael,” according to a news release.

Concerts in Arkansas are free. Performance dates and locations will include:

Saturday, Oct. 20 — 7:30 p.m. at Lyon College’s Brown Chapel at Batesville.

Sunday, Oct. 21 — 7 p.m. at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Hathaway Howard Fine Arts Center.

Monday, Oct. 22 — 7:30 p.m. at the University of Arkansas at Monticello at the fine arts center.

Tuesday, Oct. 23 — 7:30 p.m. at Hendrix College’s Staples Auditorium at Conway.

Wednesday, Oct. 24 — 7:30 p.m. at Arkansas Tech University at Russelle’s Witherspoon Auditorium.

“Seraph Brass, an ensemble founded by international trumpet soloist Mary Elizabeth Bowden, draws from a roster of distinguished female musicians,” according to the release.

The lineup for this tour will rotate between Bowden, Raquel Rodriquez and Jean Laurenz on trumpet, Rachel Velvikis and Chandra Cervantes playing horn, Hana Beloglavec on trombone and Gretchen Renshaw James on tuba.

The group has toured throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. Asteria was recorded in Hannikainen Hall at Nurmes, Finland, in August 2017, and features pieces by Mendelssohn, Grieg and Liszt arranged by Utah Symphony trumpeter Jeff Luke.

“Seraph commissioned two new pieces by Opera Philadelphia Composer in Residence Orth and McMichael for the release. McMichael says of her ‘Asteria,’ the title track: ‘The ancient word ‘asteria’ has its roots in both Greek and Latin, and refers to stars… The timbre of a brass quintet is particularly well suited to the themes of drama, nobility and spectacle featured in this piece,” according to the release.
