Desha County Compassionate Friends will host a Worldwide Candle Lighting Remembrance service honoring the memories of children who died.

Desha County friends will join the National Compassionate Friends in the 22nd annual service from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Dumas Community Center at Dumas, according to a news release.

A program of readings, poems, candlelight ceremony and music will be presented.

“At 7 p.m. candles will be lighted in memory of all our children gone too soon…that their light will always shine,” according to the release.

A reception will follow the ceremony. Supportive friends are also invited to attend. Admission is free.

“The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting on the second Sunday in December unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren (all children) who have died, but will never be forgotten. The annual Worldwide Candle Lighting, a gift to the bereavement community from the Compassionate Friends, creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone,” according to the release.
