Pine Bluff police on Thursday said reports that there was an “active shooter” situation in the city were not accurate.

According to a press release from PBPD Officer Richard Wegner, officers responded to a report of shots being fired in the 3900 block of West 15th Avenue at about 3 p.m. Before they arrived, dispatchers continued to receive calls that shots were still being fired and at least one person had been hit.

When officers arrived, they found two men, one who had received a gunshot wound to the buttocks and the other who showed signs of being in a physical fight. Both were taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Wegner said in the release that it appears that the two men were involved in an altercation with each other before shots were fired, and as the incident progressed, it moved further west until it reached the intersection with Fig Street. Both men were being questioned by police Thursday afternoon; no further information was immediately available.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Detective Division at 730-2090 or the Dispatch Center at 541-5300. Information can also be shared on the department’s Facebook page.
