The regular assistance program to help people pay energy bills will end Thursday, however the crisis portion of the program will continue, according to the Pine Bluff-Jefferson County Economic Opportunities Commission.


The Low Income Heating Assistance (LIHEAP) program helps with heating bills for people struggling to pay them. In Jefferson County, applications are accepted at the EOC Pine Bluff Office, 817 S. Cherry St. Details: Call 536-0046. In Grant, Cleveland, Lincoln, and Arkansas counties, call toll free at 1-800-277-1313.


In Southeast Arkansas, applications are accepted at the EOC Sheridan Office, 815 E. Center; EOC Rison Office, 406 S. Main St.; EOC Star City Office, 107 S. Drew St.; and the EOC Stuttgart Office, 425 S. Main St.


EOC is a private, non-profit organization which operates social programs and services targeting low income households. EOC works with other agencies to provide assistance including housing, food, employment, home repair and energy assistance.
