One person was injured in a house fire at 1103 S. Tennessee St. Wednesday night.

A 68-year-old woman, whose name was not immediately available, was found lying on the ground in the backyard of the house, which was fully engulfed with fire when firefighters arrived, Deputy Chief Ernest Jones said at the scene. Firefighters were called to the scene at 10:04 p.m.

The victim sustained what appeared to be minor burns, Jones said, and was alert and talking at the scene.

The house had no utilities and neighbors reported to fire officials that the woman cooked in her fireplace. The investigation into the fire’s cause was ongoing at press time. The fire marshal was en route to the scene.

The structure was a total loss.

The victim was transported from the scene by ambulance.
