Lt. Fabian Fontenot with the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department pulls a hose as part of the Emergency Response Simulated Training exercise at the department’s training facility Wednesday.

Chief Shauwn Howell said the annual training is designed to simulate activities firefighters might encounter on the job, including climbing a ladder, pulling a weighed dummy simulating a person and other obstacle course activities.

"We just want to make sure to keep our skills sharp and are physically fit to be able to perform the job," Howell said.

The training ran Tuesday through Thursday and Howell said every member of the department, except those who were excused for medical reasons, successfully completed the course. (Special to The Commercial/William Harvey)
