CEDAR BRANCH — Bonnie Howard Smith 82, of the Cedar Branch Community (Grant County), passed away Saturday, December 21, 2013.


Born September 26, 1931 at Lake Village, he was a son of the late Albert S. Smith and Manila Davis Smith.


Mr. Smith was a faithful member of First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church and the Ester Sunday school class. He had served as Deacon for 40 years, and previously taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.


He was a welder/car knocker for the "Cotton Belt" Railroad, then Union Pacific, before retiring in 1993 after 33 years of service.


Mr. Smith was a devoted family man, and loved them all dearly. Whether hunting or just riding the trails, He enjoyed the outdoors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Forbus.


Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Mary Louisa "Lou" Vanlandingham. Together they would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary on Monday, December 23rd; son, Billy Smith and wife Mary Lou; daughter, Mildred Drake and husband Paul; sisters, Helen Turner and Lennie Clinton; five grandchildren, Lance Smith, Amanda Wolfenden, Melissa Bickford, Lindsey White and Patricia Drake; nine great-grandchildren, Drake, Mason, Lane, Bella, Naomi, Dylan, Scarlett, Weston, Ruston, and many other loving family and friends.
