American Legion Hearin-Connolly Post 32 of Pine Bluff announced 24 high school juniors as delegates from Jefferson County who will attend Arkansas Boys State at the University of Central Arkansas at Conway from Sunday to June 1.

American Legion Hearin-Connolly Post 32 of Pine Bluff announced 24 high school juniors as delegates from Jefferson County who will attend Arkansas Boys State at the University of Central Arkansas at Conway from Sunday to June 1.

Boys State, now in its 72nd year, is sponsored in all 50 states by the American Legion to provide citizenship training for boys in a weeklong residential experience. Boys will live in a mythical city and county arrangement to learn how state and local government function in a ‘democracy’ under responsible leadership. Delegates will elect their own state and local officers, organize a model legislature, and visit the Capitol building to meet state officials. Boys control the election process and choose their leaders through effective political campaigning and voting procedures.

Robert Rhinehart, Boys State chairman, reminded delegates they soon will be of voting age to affect the nation’s future. Attendance is sponsored at no cost to delegates by 15 local businesses, service clubs and public schools. Delegates and sponsors are:
