The Pine Bluff Daughters of the American Revolution gave several medals and awards to area students for the 2011-2012 school year.

For her essay, Madeleine Lowrey, daughter of Jennifer and Seth Lowrey, received the coveted Frances Loyd-Jane Chessher Arkansas DAR $500 scholarship to the school of her choice at the 104th annual Arkansas State DAR conference. The Pine Bluff chapter $200 scholarship to Southeast Arkansas College was presented by Betty Coles to Tiffany L. Chavies.

American History awards were presented to two students from Ridgway Christian School. The essay awards for Lucas Blake’s essay, “The War of 1812: Young American Takes a Stand” and for Sarai Nicholson’s essay “Christopher Columbus: In His Own Time, in History, and Today” were presented by Melissa Poe, DAR American History chairman.

ROTC medals and awards were given to Pine Bluff High School student Yanqui Sun, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fahui Sun. Yanqui came to Pine Bluff High School from China in 2010 with her parents. Her aerospace ecience instructor was Master Sgt. Barron D. Hall.

Watson Chapel recipient for the ROTC medal and award was cadet Taylor McDaniel, daughter of Ricky and Tina McDaniel. Her ROTC instructor was Lt. Col. Dana Graydon with Lt. Col. Stan L. Warrick as Senior Army Instructor (SAI).

Dollarway High School recipient was Chelsea Osademe, daughter of Sheik Osademe.

The Pine Bluff-John McAlmont May meeting was at the home of Susan Brown. Mary Fox gave the program, “An Afternoon Tea from the Revolutionary Period”. A beautiful tea table with delicious food finalized the last meeting for 2011-2012.
