On Saturday, June 2, 25 members and five State officers of the PEO International Sisterhood met at Lakeside United Methodist Church to set the stage for the beginning of a new PEO Chapter in Arkansas.

For the past several months, members of the two local chapters, AU and BZ, worked diligently to meet the requirements of merging the two chapters, and with the help of the Arkansas State Chapter were able to successfully complete the task. According to Earline Tripp, Arkansas State vice president, “The merging of the two chapters will emphasize the talents and contributions of each chapter and will help to ensure the future of PEO in Pine Bluff.”

During the ceremony the following officers were elected: president, Martha Sue Pearce; vice president, Jo Neal; recording secretary, Cecile Smithwick; treasurer, Lynn Castleberry; corresponding secretary, Marilyn McKelvey; chaplain, Vickie Coleman; and guard, Beth Turchi. The officers in attendance were then installed by Julie Gaddy, organizer of the Arkansas State Chapter.

Pearce, called the meeting of Chapter AU-BZ to order and her first official business as the newly installed president was to hear the report of the program committee. She then announced the next meeting of Chapter AU-BZ. Handmade gift cards designed by JoAnn Ruggeri were presented to the five Arkansas state officers as a token of appreciation. The meeting was closed with a benediction.

After the meeting, the ladies attended a reception hosted by members of AU-BZ Chapter.
