MONTICELLO — Author and writing instructor Kerry Madden will read from her original works at 7 p.m. March 12 in the Harris Recital Hall of the Music Building on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

MONTICELLO — Author and writing instructor Kerry Madden will read from her original works at 7 p.m. March 12 in the Harris Recital Hall of the Music Building on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

The event, which is being sponsored by the Southeast Educational Renewal Zone and UAM’s School of Arts and Humanities, is free and open to the public.

Madden’s first novel, “Offsides”, reflects her own experience growing up the daughter of a football coach and living in many football towns throughout the Midwest and South. She has also written several young-adult novels, including “Louisiana’s Song”, “Gentler’s Holler”, “Jessie’s Mountain”, and a biography of Harper Lee, the author of the classic “To Kill a Mockingbird”.

In addition, Madden is a journalist and playwright and has taught writing and literature at Ningbo University in China, in the Los Angeles Unified School District, at the University of Southern California, Antioch University Los Angeles, and the University of Alabama.
