President Margie Hart introduced Mary Shannon Fikes, who presented the program on American fashion designer, Gloria Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt was born in 1924 in New York City into a socially prominent and wealthy family. She is not only well-known as an heiress and socialite who has had many marriages and tragedies in her life, but also as a woman of many and varied talents — artist, author and actress. But perhaps she is best-known as a designer of “beautiful” women’s clothing and lovely scarves. She developed the ever-popular designer jeans for women and is the mother of CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

After a brief business meeting, hostesses Susan Railsback, Billie Robinson, Sunny James and Helen Clement served French chocolate silk pie and coffee at tables centered with baskets of “lovely” spring maidenhair fern.
