The Bluff City American Business Women’s Association celebrated its 39th birthday at its recent meeting.
President Janelle Thomason read the congratulatory note from the National Office and then called on Patsy Stroud to recap the history of the chapter.
Bluff City was chartered Jan. 10, 1974, with 26 members. Member Anna Merle Key was one of the original charter members. Janelle Thomason was to join later that charter year. The core of the group has always been scholarship and since 1974, Bluff City has awarded close to $80,000 in scholarships to young women in the community. This year, the chapter plans to award two $500 scholarships.
Edwin Riddle was noted as the current Woman of the Year. As part of the business meeting, the meeting time was changed to 6 p.m. The National ABWA slogan for 2013 is ” Together We Can, Together We Will”.
The members exchanged birthday gifts as part of the program. The dollar pot was won by Barbara Horner and she graciously donated it back to the chapter.
