The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., will kick off its 2012 Live@5 monthly music series with The Blue Thirds from 5-7 p.m. Friday.

The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 Main St., will kick off its 2012 Live@5 monthly music series with The Blue Thirds from 5-7 p.m. Friday.

The blues and rock-and-roll group consists of Brian Austin on guitar and vocals, Jamie Powell on bass and vocals, John Shalmy on drums, and Barry Harper on percussion and vocals.

Live@5 is known for its networking, great atmosphere, educational benefits and versatile, unique sounds from Southeast Arkansas musicians, according to a center spokesman.

The cost of the evening is $5 for members and $10 for non-members, which includes light refreshments. M.K. Distributors sponsors the event.

The center is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1-4 p.m. Saturday, and is closed on Sunday. Support for ASC is provided in part by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Hands-on science exhibits are offered through ASCís partnership with Arkansas Discovery Network, a consortium of seven museums in Arkansas funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.
