Many people started 2012 by making a New Year’s resolution to eat healthier. Star City High School students began the new year by focusing on healthy eating by enjoying fruit.

Students in Roger Darren High’s art I classes created chalk pastel drawings of fresh fruit as part of a color theory lesson.

Each student chose either an apple, orange, banana, or pear to draw. Students drew the fruit whole then took a few bites and drew the fruit again. After a few more bites the students create one last drawing of the remains of the fruit.

The lesson helped students to understand how to draw with chalk pastels, how to blend pastels to create a variety and tones and values, and the importance of developing healthy eating habits.

The drawings created by students are currently on exhibit at Star City High School.
