Water service to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a nearby apartment complex was interrupted Friday afternoon when a contractor installing cable punctured a water main, a spokesman for United Water said.

Lester Melton, manager of United Water’s Pine Bluff operations, said employees of the contractor punctured an eight-inch water main, adding the water utility’s crews replaced the damaged section off L.A. “Prexy” Davis Drive, a north-south street that cuts through the UAPB campus.

The outage lasted about three hours, Melton said. He did not identify the contractor.
