Jefferson County Republicans elected a new slate of officers following the retirement of the county chairman Steve Lux, who is moving to Hot Springs Village because of a job relocation. A change in state party rules led to the need for the election.

All members were elected unanimously and take office Jan. 1. They are Peter Smykla, county chairman; Jan Adam, who replaces Stu Soffer as first vice chair; David Singer, who replaces Adam as second vice chair; Robert McClanahan, who replaces Sherry Lux as treasurer; and Stacy DeJarnette replaces Penny McCullugh as state committee woman. Eva Marie Pearson will continue as secretary and Soffer chose to remain as the GOP representative on the county election commission.

The county committee also agreed to feature a debate at the Lincoln Day Dinner in early 2012 among the four announced Republican candidates for the 4th Congressional District seat.

“This format will enable Jefferson County voters to get to know the candidates and make an informed decision on election day,” Smykla said.

More information about the dinner will be available soon.
