Pine Bluff nurse Karen Holcomb has been elected president of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

Pine Bluff nurse Karen Holcomb has been elected president of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

Holcomb is a registered nurse and received her nursing diploma from the Jefferson School of Nursing in Pine Bluff and bachelorís degree in gerontology from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Her certifications include AHA Mid-Management Certification, ALCS and BLS. Holcomb is a clinical nurse manager in the orthopedics and urology unit at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

She is married to Danny Holcomb and has two children.

Also elected to the board were: Richard A. (Rick) Spivey of Faulkner County, vice president; F. Gladwin Connell, secretary; and Doris Scroggin of Vilonia, treasurer.

The Arkansas State Board of Nursing is made up of 13 Arkansas residents appointed by the governor. Its mission is to safeguard the life and health of its citizens by developing standards for safe nursing care and approval of nursing schools and regulating licenses to practice nursing.
