Applications for the 2012 UAPB/AM&N Homecoming Parade are available for pick up, according to Florence Caine, Homecoming Parade chairperson. The Homecoming Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 in downtown Pine Bluff.

The parade is one of a series of annual events where the university joins the community in acknowledgement and celebration of its mission. This year’s theme for homecoming activities is “Pride in the Pride.”

A non-refundable application fee will be required for non-university sponsored organizations. The fees are as follows: cars - $50, trucks/SUVs - $75, and semi-trailer trucks (18 wheelers) - $150. Current elected officials are excluded. Fees may be paid in the Walker Research Building, room 107.

Participants other than bands are asked to create a float that follows the university’s theme. Trophies will be awarded this year to the group with the best float. The criteria for winners will be based on creativity in using the theme.

For local politicians who wish to participate, only incumbent national, state, county and city elected officials may participate in the parade. Campaign materials may not be displayed on the elected official’s vehicle. Also, identification of elected officials will be limited to name and office held.

Parade applications can be acquired via www.uapb.edu or picked up from and returned to the Walker Research Building, room 107, the Troy & Gladys Alley Information & Public Safety Center at the corner of University Drive and Reeker Street, the UAPB Police Office, and L.A. Davis Sr., Student Union, room 218.

The application deadline is 4 p.m. Oct. 14 and applications received after the deadline will not be processed. Call 575-8359 or 575-8889 for deadline on fees and further details about applications. Cashier’s checks or money orders may be made payable to The UAPB Homecoming Committee (no personal checks or cash will be accepted).
