The Rt. Rev. Larry Benfield, 14th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas, will make his annual visit to Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 W. Third Ave., Sunday.

The Rt. Rev. Larry Benfield, 14th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas, will make his annual visit to Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 W. Third Ave., Sunday.

To celebrate the bishop’s visit , there will be one service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday followed by a brunch.

Benfield was elected bishop in 2006. He has been rector at Christ Church in Little Rock, Canon for Administration and Planned Giving Officer for the Diocese of Arkansas, interim rector at St. Luke’s in Hot Springs and St. Mark’s in Little Rock, according to archive.episcopalchurch.org .

In 1990, Benfield earned a master of divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1991, the website said.

“This is a special opportunity to learn more about the Episcopal Church and to hear the bishop preach,” the Rev. Van Windsor, rector of Trinity Episcopal, said. “He is renowned for his eloquence.”

Those attending the service are also invited to remain for the brunch and to visit with Benfield.

Trinity Episcopal is the oldest Episcopal church building in continuous use in Arkansas. Construction began in 1859 and the first service was held on Christmas Day, 1870.
