Firefighters and police officers responded to a residential house fire located at West Eighth Avenue and Bois D’Arc Street at approximately 1:20 Friday afternoon.
Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Chief Shauwn D. Howell said that an investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing and that no further information was available as of late Friday afternoon.
PBFES Deputy Chief Earnest Jones referred a call to PBFES Lt. Randy Compton, who referred a call back to Howell.
Law enforcement personnel with the Pine Bluff Police Department confirmed that the house had been vacant for several years. A red and white ‘For Sale’ sign hung from the front porch and a second sign was located in the front yard of the residence.
Three firefighters were observed fighting the blaze that was quickly brought under control. The interior of the residence was visibly charred with heavy scorch damage visible along the roof line above the front porch.
Firefighters used blower fans to speed the evacuation of smoke — which billowed from windows and doors — from the house.
PBPD officers confirmed that upon their arrival at the scene flames shot high into the air with scorch marks visible on trees an estimated 30 feet above the home’s roof.
