The Pine Bluff School Board approved a set of personnel recommendations made by Superintendent Jerry Payne, with several modifications, at its meeting Tuesday night.

The board approved the hiring of certified personnel including Charles Cone as acting principal on a temporary basis as a substitute for Georgia Sanders at Forrest Park Pre-School effective Dec. 1 through Dec. 19; Sanita Girley as a trade and industrial educator at Pine Bluff High School, replacing the retiring Jerry Brasfield, for six months effective Jan. 3, 2012; and Cameron M. Richardson as an eighth grade certified English instructor at Jack Robey Junior High School to replace Teresa Moka, for five months, effective Jan. 3; Enerese Sims and Synthia Harroway as special services para-professionals at Pine Bluff High School for five months effective Jan. 3.

The board approved the hiring of LaToya Brown to teach math and literacy to Pine Bluff School District students only for five months effective Jan. 3, pointing out that the parameters of the job description must be strictly adhered to in order to satisfy federal Title I requirements. Brown is also a teacher at St. Peter Catholic School and is being hired as part of a collaboration with St. Peter.

The board denied the hiring recommendation for LaSheia Foots as a fifth grade instructor at Oak Park Elementary School to replace the retiring Cynthia Newborn, for five months effective Jan. 3.

The board approved the hiring of classified personnel effective Jan. 3, including Debra Deshazier as a school nurse for five months; Jeffrey Dunbar and Marchello Eans as para-professionals, instructional intervention, at Oak Park Elementary for five months; TaKisha Mason as a para-professional at Forrest Park Pre-School for five months; Elaine Fletcher and Tammy Johnson as Title I para-professionals at W.T. Cheney Elementary for five months; Shayla Powell Nelson as a Title I kindergarten para-professional at Southwood Elementary for five months; Marynell Cardin as an APSCN K-5 registrar at the Central Office for six months; Meketia Roberts as a secretary at Pine Bluff High School for five months; Joshua Handley as a bus driver in the transportation department for five months; and Nortoria Thomas as a computer lab manager at Southwood Elementary for five months.

The board accepted the resignations of certified employees Tinika Bell, a special education teacher at Pine Bluff High School effective Dec. 20; and Teresa Moka, an English teacher at Jack Robey, effective Jan. 3.

The board accepted the resignations of classified employees Elnora Brooks as a special needs bus driver retroactive to the Aug. 8 date of resignation; Delong Austin Jr. as a para-professional at Forrest Park Pre-School effective Nov. 4; Sheila Moon as a CDL Trainer/bus driver at Pine Bluff High School effective Nov. 28; Krystal Shelton as a special services para-professional at Pine Bluff High School effective Dec. 20; and Shalisha Thomas as a special services para-professional at Pine Bluff High School effective Dec. 20.

The board approved the termination of classified personnel Reuben Camp, a para-professional at Southwood Elementary, for abandonment of job, retroactive to Aug. 1, 2011.

In other business the board heard the November financial report from district director of business and finance Pam Winkler.

Winkler told the board that for the month ending Nov. 30 the district had a beginning balance of $13,360,394.17; a total available balance of $31,525,237.33; total deductions of $13,617,552.91; amount available for operating of $17,907,684.42; and a total balance for all funds of $22,022,218.58.
