The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has a long history of generous giving by alumni for student scholarships and July 1 marked the beginning of the 2012-2013 Annual Giving fund-raising year.

Margaret Martin-Hall, UAPB Title III program administration director, explained that financial contributions from donors are matched dollar for dollar by the Title III: Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program.

The program is intended to assist universities with high percentages of minority and economically disadvantaged students with strengthening their physical plants, academic resources and student services to enable them to continue to provide a quality education.

“The bulk of the money that is received is donated to scholarships,” Martin-Hall said. “Every year hundreds of thousands of dollars go to scholarships. On an annual basis we receive between $400,000 and $600,000 for setting up scholarships and funding existing scholarships. The Lifeline Endowed Fund is a special scholarship that is set aside for students in dire need of financial support.”

The Annual Giving campaign provides UAPB with unrestricted funds that can be placed in areas of crucial need that are used to supplement state appropriations according to information provided by the university.

Martin-Hall said that interested donors can contribute in a number of ways, including cash, checks, by credit card, stocks and property.

“We are open to all of the best practices of fundraising,” Martin-Hall said.

Giving levels include: major gift donor, $10,000 and up; chancellor club, $7,500 to $9,999; prestige club, $6,000 to $7,499; dean’s club, $4,000 to $5,999; leadership club, $2,000 to $3,999; honors club, $1,300 to $1,999; achievement club, $700 to $1,299; challenge club, $400 to $699; heritage club, $250 to $399; and contributors list, $50 to $249.
