Christopher Castoro, executive director of the foundation, said two additional scholarships will be re-opened in June and July since no candidates applied: The Strong Scholarship, benefitting a math major at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and the Robert P. Atkinson Scholarship for a graduate student majoring in hospital administration or management. There are three additional scholarships to be renewed through the O.C. Hauber Scholarship program, and another in the Gene Lyon Memorial scholarship, pending approval of student grade-point and enrollment.

The foundation is able to award scholarships and grants because of the contributions of local residents or institutions who have established permanent endowments or distribution funds with the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation. An endowment can be established for as little as $10,000. The original gift and all subsequent gifts to the fund are tax-deductible.

The foundation is a non-profit, philanthropic organization that helps individuals, families and businesses create funds to financially support educational, cultural, and charitable organizations in Jefferson County. It is an affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation. Details: e-mail pbacf@pbreynoldscenter.org or call (870) 850-7934.
