The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and University of Arkansas System will welcome Interim Chancellor Calvin Johnson with a convocation and reception.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and University of Arkansas System will welcome Interim Chancellor Calvin Johnson with a convocation and reception.

The event will be held May 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Center.

Johnson is former dean of the School of Education at UAPB and former chair of the Department of Teacher Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. His career in education as a teacher and faculty member spans more than 30 years. He served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1998 to 2004 and is a current member of the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board, a position he will resign before becoming interim chancellor.

Johnson earned his bachelorís degree in agriculture education at UAPB and a masterís degree in counselor education from the University of Central Arkansas. He completed his Ph.D. degree in adult education and public school administration at Kansas State University.

Speakers include Ronald Bobbit, president of the U of A System; Shane Broadway, interim director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and representatives from the city of Pine Bluff. The reception will take place in the lobby of the fine arts center.
