Colby Aaron Smith, a graduating senior at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, has been admitted to Teachers College, Columbia University Graduate and Professional School of Education. He is the first student from UAPB to be accepted into the program.

Colby Aaron Smith, a graduating senior at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, has been admitted to Teachers College, Columbia University Graduate and Professional School of Education. He is the first student from UAPB to be accepted into the program.

During the spring semester of 2012, Smith has been enrolled in the professional semester (student teaching) as an intern in the Watson Chapel School District. He credits his experiences working with junior and senior high school students with reaffirming his commitment to the field of education.

His studies at Columbia will include literary genres, specialized secondary education topics, and methodology coursework in teaching reading and writing. His coursework will culminate with hands-on teaching experiences in assigned middle and senior high schools in one of New York Cityís five boroughs.

Smith has also been offered admission to masterís programs at New York University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
