Traffic was stalled several hours but no one was injured when an 18-wheeler overturned about 1:45 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 530.

Truck driver James McAllister said he was attempting to drive the 18-wheeler onto the on ramp at I-530 South from Camden Road when his truck began to tip over, spilling timber he was hauling.

“It could’ve been worse,” McAllister said of the incident which blocked the entrance of the on ramp to other motorists. “I’m just glad nobody was hurt.”

Lt. Terry Hopson of the Pine Bluff Police Department said the driver was going too fast and that his load was top heavy. When he began to make the turn, the truck bed began to flip over, Hopson said.

McAllister said he was trying to deliver the load to Pine Bluff.

“I almost made it,” he said.

United Towing was at the scene Thursday afternoon hooking their vehicles to the 18-wheeler and turning it back right side up.
