The trial is set to begin this afternoon in the case of a Pine Bluff man accused of shooting another man to death last year.

Tony Ray Boykins Jr., 28, is charged with first-degree murder in the July 27 shooting death of Brian K. Smith, 21, in an apartment at 1301 S. Maple St.

Boykins has pleaded innocent.

Smith was shot once in the back and taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police reported that four witnesses said Boykins and Smith got into an argument and Boykins reportedly left the apartment, went to his automobile and got a gun, then came back and shot Smith.

Jury selection began Monday morning. Circuit Judge Berlin C. Jones is presiding over the trial, which is expected to last two days.
