Formal charges were filed Friday against a Pine Bluff man accused in the shooting death of another man last week.

Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter charged Lester Phillips, 30, with capital murder in the June 12 shooting death of Leroy Collins, 35, on the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1300 block of South Maple Street.

Collins was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Police were sent to the apartments at about 7 p.m. to investigate reports of gunshots in the area and found Collins unresponsive.

The slaying was the 12th of the year in Jefferson County and the 11th of the year inside the Pine Bluff city limits.

Phillips, whose last known address was in the same apartment complex where Collins was shot, is still at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
