Arkansas State Rep. Efrem Elliott has announced that he plans to seek the Democratic nomination for the Arkansas State Senate in the May primary election.

Elliott will be seeking the District 25 seat currently held by Sen. Stephanie Flowers of Pine Bluff, who has announced she will be a candidate for re-election.

“I’ve traveled to every county in the district and the people have spoken, they’re overwhelmingly expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of representation of the incumbent in the Arkansas State Senate,” Elliott said. “I will work hard to bring forth the real issues facing the people of this district.”

Senate District 25 covers parts of Jefferson, Lincoln, Desha, Phillips and Arkansas counties.

Elliott currently represents District 11 in the Arkansas House of Representatives, a position he has held since 2011, and is currently serving as Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore. He is also a member of the Dollarway School District Board of Directors.

Elliott is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications. He also attended the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy at Camden.

A former police officer at Altheimer, Elliott has also served as a staff member for former state Sen. Henry “Hank” Wilkins IV and as director of security for the 6th Division of Circuit Court (Juvenile Division) of the 11th Judicial District West, which includes Jefferson and Lincoln counties.

Elliott and his wife Tracie are the parents of three children.
