A reported domestic disturbance in Tucker early Saturday morning resulted in the death of one man and the arrest of the man’s brother on murder charges.
Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Nicholas Dejuan Reed, 22***, of Tucker, who was pronounced dead by Chief Deputy Coroner David Westbrook at 3:48 a.m. The cause of death was listed as an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.
Sheriff’s Department Operations Commander Major Lafayette Woods Jr., said Reed’s brother, Ryan Reed, 21, also of Tucker, was taken into custody on probable cause of first-degree murder pending an expected court appearance Monday and the filing of formal charges by the prosecutor’s office.
Woods said deputies were sent to 10806 Highway 15 North at Tucker early Saturday morning in response to a reported domestic disturbance, and when they arrived, found Nicholas Reed inside the house with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the two brothers had engaged in a physical altercation inside the house when Ryan Reed allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot Nicholas Reed, Woods said.
Kelley said the body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory at Little Rock Saturday for an autopsy.
The slaying was the seventh homicide of the year in Jefferson County and the first outside the Pine Bluff city limits.
Woods said an investigation into the incident is continuing.
