Members of the public may now sign up to receive text message or email alerts from the Pine Bluff Police Department.

The service, called TipSoft Alerts, is available now, the department announced in a news release Tuesday. Residents may register for the service by visiting the Pine Bluff Police Department’s website at www.pbpd.org or the department’s Facebook page.

“We’re constantly searching for ways to improve public safety, and adding this ability to directly alert the public is an essential component to keeping communities safe,” Police Chief Brenda Davis-Jones said in the release. “Raising awareness about recent trends and keeping the public informed with relevant information is part of our job.”

TipSoft Alerts, which is made by PublicEngines, allows members of the public to opt in for the alert service by text or email, according to their preference. TipSoft Alerts is a companion tool to TipSoft, which allows the public to submit anonymous tips to law enforcement via text message, iPhone, Android or web browser.

“TipSoft Alerts is another way that the Pine Bluff Police Department is setting the pace in using technology to prevent, reduce and solve crime,” PublicEngines CEO William Kilmer said in the release. “By using this tool, Chief Brenda Davis-Jones is taking advantage of one of the best resources at her disposal — an informed and engaged public.”
