A Jefferson County man who allegedly had sex with an underage girl will have to post a $10,000 bond to be released from the county detention center while prosecutors prepare felony charges against him.

Following a court hearing Wednesday, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Benjamin Moore, 24, with two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said sheriff’s deputies were sent to a house in the county last week where the parents of the alleged 14-year-old victim reported that their daughter told them she had had sex with Moore.

Investigator Randy Jackson reported that the girl was interviewed by an investigator from the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Unit, and the girl reportedly said she had had consensual sex with Moore twice, and also knew that he was over 21 years old.

Moore reportedly claimed that the girl initially told him she was 18, but he later learned that she was 14.

In addition to setting the bond, Bridgforth ordered Moore to have no contact with the girl, and to come back to court July 18.
