An investigation into a reported sexual assault involving an 11-year-old girl that began more than three weeks ago resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly touched the girl inappropriately.

Shawn Campbell, 38, was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the alleged incident, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing Wednesday.

Detective Kevin Patterson reported that police were sent Feb. 10 to an apartment on the east side of Pine Bluff where the girl said that Campbell had sexually harassed her.

Kizer said an investigator from the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children and Families Unit interviewed the girl and reported that Campbell had allegedly “touched and assaulted her.”

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $25,000 bond for Campbell after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with second-degree sexual assault.

Kearney appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Campbell and told him to come back to court at 9 a.m. April 25.
