A Jefferson County man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly threatened to kill several people.

Kierre Bates, 19, also allegedly pointed a handgun at Willie Thompson and several members of Thompson’s family, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing Thursday for Bates.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Investigator Fred Green reported that Thompson’s home on Princeton Pike had been broken into last week and Thompson confronted Bates, who he believed was a suspect in the burglary.

Kizer said deputies found a .9-millimeter handgun that Bates had allegedly pointed at Thompson and others in Bates’ girlfriend’s car.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25,000 bond for Bates after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault.

Bridgforth also ordered Bates, who said he would hire his own attorney, to have no contact with Thompson and other members of his family until the case is settled, and to come back to court May 17 at 9 a.m.
