A Pine Bluff man wanted in connection with a recent shooting death was captured in Hot Springs Monday evening, police said.

Lester Phillips, 30, was wanted in the June 12 shooting death of Leroy Collins, 35, who was shot on the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1300 block of South Maple Street.

Collins was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Formal charges were filed Friday against Phillips.

About 3 p.m., Pine Bluff police detectives received information Phillips was possibly at a house on Hagen Drive in Hot Springs. Pine Bluff detectives informed the Hot Springs Police Department, whose Street Crimes Unit detectives conducted surveillance, interviewed witnesses and confirmed that Phillips was at the residence.

Hot Springs police obtained a search warrant for the house and the Garland County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. team and hostage negotiators were activated. At approximately 6:30 p.m. after negotiations, Phillips came out of the house and was taken into custody without incident.

Phillips was transported to the Jefferson County Dub Brassell Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
