Pine Bluff police have made a second arrest in an April 24 robbery at the Speedway gas station at 1429 S. Cherry St.

Toney Gilbert, 23, of Pine Bluff was arrested Tuesday in connection with the robbery, in which Quentin Benson, 28, was arrested April 26.

PBPD Detective Michael Roberts reported in an affidavit on the incident that officers were dispatched to the gas station at 8:48 p.m. April 24 and spoke to both Gilbert and Benson, who reported that two black males wearing bandannas on their faces and gloves on their hands robbed the business. Two store clerks interviewed said the same thing.

After reviewing the surveillance video of the incident, officers suspected that Gilbert and Benson were involved in the robbery. Benson was re-interviewed and admitted to being involved in the robbery, according to Robertsí report.

The surveillance tape of the incident showed Gilbert running up to the gas station door and laying in the doorway to keep the door open, according to Robertsí report. The door contained a magnetic locking system that would have locked the suspects inside if the door had closed.

When Gilbert was re-interviewed Tuesday by Roberts, Gilbert denied involvement in the robbery.

In a court appearance Wednesday for Gilbert, District Judge John Kearney ruled prosecutors have probable cause to charge Gilbert with aggravated robbery and set a $100,000 bond for Gilbert.

Gilbert said he would hire his own attorney and was instructed to return to court on July 25.
