Firefighter Larry Murray passed the emergency vehicle technician certification exam. Murray traveled to an approved testing site at E-ONE in Ocala, Fla., and took the exam Feb. 9. The exam covered fire apparatus maintenance, inspection and testing, which allows Murray to service and repair emergency vehicles in the department.

Lt. Ernest Jones obtained the Arkansas certification for emergency management. Jones serves as the city’s liaison on emergency preparedness. He coordinates training programs and emergency operations drills, assists with grant applications and also serves as a fire investigator.

“Education and training is paramount to the effectiveness and efficiency of the fire service,” said Fire Chief Shauwn Howell, who praised the initiative of Murray and Jones.
