LITTLE ROCK — President Barack Obama’s campaign manager is scheduled to attend the grand opening of Obama’s Arkansas campaign headquarters next week.

Jim Messina will speak at the event at 201 W. Broadway in downtown North Little Rock, a campaign official said. The event is expected to start about 5 p.m Tuesday.

Obama lost to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in Arkansas’ 2008 presidential election by 20 points and has received consistently low approval ratings in polls in the state. He has not been to Arkansas since a 2006 rally for state Democratic candidates, before he announced as a presidential candidate.

First Lady Michelle Obama has made two public appearances in Arkansas since her husband was elected.
