Senate Resolution 1 by Sen. Jake Files, R-Fort Smith, asks the U.S. Department of the Air Force, the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Guard Bureau to keep the 188th Fighter Wing in Fort Smith.

Congress is considering an Air Force budget plan for the 2013 fiscal year that would replace A-10 fighter jets now stationed at Fort Smith with drones.

Its important to send a message loud and clear, Files said in describing the resolution.

House honors late members

The House on Tuesday passed resolutions honoring two former House members who died recently, Lloyd George and Myra Jones.

House Memorial Resolution 1001 honors George, who died Saturday at age 85. He served in the House for nearly three decades.

House Memorial Resolution 1002 honors Myra Jones, who died Feb. 20 at age 75. She served in the House for 14 years.

Senate remembers Arkadelphia music professor

The Senate on Tuesday approved Senate Memorial Resolution 1 honoring William Francis McBeth, a long-time music theory and composition at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, who died last month at the age of 78.

Sen. Johnny Key, R-Mountain Home, said his teenage son informed him of McBeths death while returning from the All-State Band performance at Henderson State University. One of McBeths music compositions was performed at the event by the band.

Sen. Percy Malone, D-Arkadelphia, praised McBeth for his love of music and teaching.

McBeth taught at Ouachita Baptist for 39 years before he retired as a professor emeritus and distinguished university professor.
