An investigation into an alleged rape at the juvenile detention center more than a week ago resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old boy who allegedly assaulted another boy while both were being held at the center.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said the victim was a “mentally challenged 14-year-old” who reported that he had been assaulted by another individual.

Kizer said that the alleged victim was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for an examination and treatment.

The alleged assailant, 16, was interviewed with an adult guardian and reportedly said that the act was consensual.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $25,000 cash-only bond for the alleged assailant and told him to come back to court Oct. 29.

The judge also ordered the alleged assailant to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled.

Because of their ages, the names of the alleged victim and assailant were not released.

Sheriff’s Investigator Mickey Buffkin learned of the alleged assault while conducting an investigation into another alleged assault involving a juvenile held at the center. That investigation resulted in the arrest of an adult counselor, Chilton Blunt, 21, who allegedly assaulted the juvenile while spending time with him at a funeral home where Blunt also worked.
