A $50,000 bond was set Thursday for a Pine Bluff woman who allegedly pointed a gun at another woman Wednesday.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Valerie Bland, 42, with aggravated assault.

Police Detective Jeremy Funderburg reported that the victim, Dominique Gibson, contacted officers and told them she was in the area of 22 Phyllis St., when she heard two gunshots.

Gibson said she stopped at a stop sign and saw Bland pointing a handgun at her, Funderburg said in a probable cause affidavit.

Police reported that Gibson said she and Bland had “had problems with each other in the past.”

Funderburg reported that Bland denied firing shots at Gibson, and the interview was stopped when Bland asked for an attorney.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said that in addition to the new allegation, Bland is on probation after pleading guilty to a drug-related charge, and a petition had been filed to revoke that probation.

In addition to setting the bond, Kearney ordered Bland to have no contact with Gibson until the case is settled and to come back to court.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Bland.
