A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted fugitive was recently arrested in Chicago following a struggle with police, Major Lafayette Woods Jr., Operations Commander at the sheriff’s department, said Monday.
Antonio L. Williams, Jr., 19, was apprehended in Chicago on Jan. 29 following an initial encounter by two Chicago Police Department officers for an alleged curfew violation, Woods said.
Williams was wanted for robbery out of Jefferson County and his warrant has no bond, according to the commander.
Williams, who was with another unknown male, allegedly gave police a false identity. Williams’ identity was later confirmed by area residents.
At some point, Williams allegedly attempted to flee and became combative as officers attempted to subdue him. During a struggle, Williams reportedly struck both officers, gained control of a Taser and used against one of the officers, Woods said.
Additional police arrived and Williams was taken into custody. He was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries sustained after being stunned by a Taser, Woods said.
Following his release from the hospital, Williams was taken to jail and faces several charges: two counts of a Class 2 Felony for Aggravated Battery on a Peace Officer; three counts of a Class 4 Felony for Resisting Peace Officers & Corrections; one count of a Class 4 Felony for Disarming a Peace Officer; and one count of a Class A Misdemeanor for Obstructing Identification.
As a result of the struggle with Williams, two officers were also hospitalized after sustaining injuries, Woods said. Williams will remain in custody in Chicago on new charges pending against him by CPD and until extradition proceedings can be completed between the state of Arkansas and Illinois.
