A Pine Bluff man was arrested Thursday following an investigation into the alleged theft of money from a restaurant.

John Parrish, 28, was taken into custody in connection with nearly $5,000 that was reported missing from the McDonald’s on South Olive Street.

During a court hearing Friday, Deputy Prosecutor Carol Billings said police were contacted after the owner of McDonald’s called Parrish about a $3,900 bank deposit that had not been made.

Detective Michael Roberts reported that Parrish said he made that deposit, but store owners reported that $1,200 was missing from a cash drawer and more than $3,000 was missing that should have been deposited into the bank.

Billings said Parrish waived his right to an attorney and denied any knowledge of the money reported missing from the cash drawer. Regarding the remaining money, Parrish reportedly claimed it had been stolen from his vehicle.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth ruled prosecutors had probable cause to charge Parrish with felony theft of property and set his bond at $5,000.

Bridgforth appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Parrish and told him to come back to court March 23.
