A Pine Bluff man arrested Tuesday after allegedly shoplifting at Dillardís in The Pines mall was identified as the suspect who fought with store security personnel at the Walmart Supercenter in August, Deputy Prosecutor Karres Manning said during a court hearing Wednesday.

Manning said Joe McKnight, 43, allegedly pushed a shopping cart into one of the security officers and pushed a second out of the way when they tried to apprehend him between 1 and 2 a.m. Aug. 23.

Detective Larry Gailey reported that the security officers saw a man, later identified as McKnight, concealing items in his clothing and when he tried to leave the store, they approached him and fought with him until he was able to get out the door and escape.

McKnight reportedly waived his right to an attorney and told police he had fought with the Walmart employees before fleeing.

Manning said McKnight had previously been convicted of theft of property in 2008 and served a prison sentence and has a pending theft of property charge that was filed last year.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 bond for McKnight after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with robbery and told him to come back to court March 21.
