Five students at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff were arrested last Thursday and were accused of breaking into a dorm room, beating one of the occupants, and taking a laptop computer.

Campus police arrested Tamir Buchanan, 19; Awdnell Gordon, 21; Jonathan Presswood, 20; Justin Gatlin, 19; and Christopher Mitchem, 22, after they were called to Johnson Hall at 2 a.m.

According to the police report, one of the alleged victims told officers that one of the suspects, later identified as Presswood, had run into another room and he was located there.

Also according to the police report, a review of the video surveillance tape from the dorm showed Presswood and others in what the police report described as “a coordinated effort” before a cover was placed over the camera lens.

University Police arrested the other suspects after watching the video.

At the time of the incident, Presswood was out on bond after being arrested and accused of the rape of another student earlier this month.

On Friday, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney ruled that prosecutors had probable cause to charge all five men with burglary and robbery.

Kearney set bond at $25,000 each for Buchanan, Gordon, Gatlin and Mitchem and $100,000 for Presswood.
