A report that a woman was attempting to cash a check that had been reported stolen ended with the woman’s arrest on Thursday.
Dominique Thomas, 23, allegedly told police she found a checkbook on the parking lot of a business and after failing to cash one of the checks, threw the others away, Detective Steve Rucker said in a probable-cause affidavit presented in court Friday.
Deputy Prosecutor Jill Reed said Thomas tried to cash the check at the Simmons First National Bank location on West 28th Avenue, but had left on foot when police arrived. She was arrested a short distance away.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $2,500 bond for Thomas after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with second-degree forgery.
Thomas said she would hire her own attorney.
