A $25,000 cash-only bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly had sex with a juvenile female and committed sexually indecent acts with the same girl and another minor female.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Matthew Okeefe, 42, with one count of rape and two counts of sexual indecency with a child.

During a court hearing Wednesday, Deputy Prosecutor Nicole Pugh said the case began when police were notified by the Department of Human Services that Okeefe had reportedly sexually assaulted one of the girls on Oct. 29 or Oct. 30.

Detective Brad Vilches reported that DHS investigators interviewed one of the girls, age 11, who said she was staying overnight with the other girl, also 11, when Okeefe showed them pornography on his computer.

Pugh said she also saw Okeefe and the other girl naked, and Okeefe was touching the other girl inappropriately.

Okeefe reportedly told both girls not to tell anyone what happened.

Vilches reported that the mother of one of the victims took her daughter to the hospital where she was diagnosed as having a sexually transmitted disease.

When Okeefe was arrested, he gave police a taped statement in which he denied any inappropriate activity involving the two girls.

Pugh said Okeefe said he watched pornography on his computer but said the kids did not see it.

In addition to setting the bond, Bridgforth ordered Okeefe to have no contact with either girl until the case is settled and to come back to court Jan. 11.

Okeefe said he would hire his own attorney.
